紫陽花 Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas are a colorful sight during Japan’s rainy season. The color of the flowers changes depending on the acidity of the soil; alkaline soil produces red and acidic soil produces blue flowers. So when the two mix together it becomes purple.
In Kamakura, there is Meigetsu-in Temple, known as the Hydrangea Temple, where you can see thousands of hydrangeas during this season.
It’s about a 10-minute walk from JR Kita-Kamakura Station, and the best time to see them is from early June to early July.
